Introducing Our New Teachers

Ms. Hannah Willmott

Hi! My name is Hannah Willmott and I’m the new P.E teacher at Sirius College. I am really looking forward to the fantastic year ahead and am excited to work with all the wonderful students at the school.

Miss Daniella Youkhanis

Hello, my name is Miss Daniella Youkhanis and I am a new teacher here at Sirius College Eastmeadows. I feel lucky that I am teaching at a school that upholds strong values and which has a wonderful reputation, both academically and culturally. This year, I will be teaching year eleven Psychology and years seven and eight Humanities. I aim to make classroom learning engaging, stimulating and challenging. I hope to inspire students to do their best to fulfil their full potential and educational desires. I am very happy to be a part of a fantastic and caring team and hope to build a strong and trusting relationship with the students, staff, parents and the wider school community.

Mr. Scott Westray

My name is Scott Westray and I have been appointed to the new Career Development Coordinator position at Sirius College. I bring a decade worth of English & History teaching experience from various schools in Melbourne, London and my home town of Sydney, as well as a number of years working in the Career Development space, including graduating from Swinburne University in 2015 with a Graduate Certificate in Career Development.

This role is an exciting challenge, as I get to help relaunch the Career Development offerings that Sirius College makes for its students and wider community. ‘Career Development’ in Australia is defined as “the lifelong process of managing learning, work, leisure and transitions in order to move towards a personally determined and evolving future” (Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners – CICA). With this in mind Ms. Sema, Mr. Mithat (MFC) and myself are developing a new department that will support your daughter’s academic growth, whilst at the same time promote learning opportunities beyond the classroom, in order to assist your daughter in making “informed decisions about their study and/or work options and enable effective participation in working life”. (Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners – CICA).

As for myself, I grew up in Western Sydney and am fiercely proud of my upbringing and home region. However, having resided in Melbourne since 2010 I am committed to supporting young people making a positive difference to our Victorian community in the future. I love my sport especially football (or soccer), but will be happy to ‘chew the fat’ with anyone over a range of sports. I love reading, travel and new experiences, as well as challenging myself every day to be better than I was the day before in whatever capacity that entails – including a bit of thrill seeking!

I look forward to working with you and your daughter, supporting her in making the most productive choices for her future.

A Message from the Careers Department

Starting in 2017, Sirius College has relaunched its Careers offerings to the school community. 'Career Development' will be looking to support your child's academic growth, whilst at the same time seeking to empower them to construct a future for themselves full of hope and self-fulfilment.

You can find more information about what the Career Development team are looking to introduce throughout 2017 on the College's website, but the first major change can be found at the Sirius College Careers webpage, a new website (mobile phone-friendly) dedicated to Career Development for all secondary students. Full of information on senior schooling, post-school options (including University, TAFE and independent tertiary centres), workplace learning opportunities, upcoming career development events and more, this website is the starting point for your child's journey of career self-discovery. Each student also has their own login area (all students received information on how to log in via their school e-Mail and SEQTA accounts on Friday Feb 10; speak to your child for more information), in which they can plan their own career development journey, undertake self-assessment tests to help refine their potential opportunities, create a resume & cover letter, plan tertiary learning options and more. There's also a section for parents on the website, with helpful information on how you can be a 'career ally' for your child. The weekly Career Development newsletter, distributed to all secondary students every Wednesday, will also be available to parents from the website every Wednesday.

Career Development is not just for senior students, and the faster your child can start to define their career ambitions and work towards them, the more successful they can be in school! For more information on what the Career Development team is looking to bring to Sirius College in 2017 and beyond, please refer to the 'Career Development' page on the College website, or contact any of the Career Development team. Details for Mr. Scott Westray (Career Development Coordinator) and Ms. Sema Firat (EMC Careers Advisor) are on the Career Development website. You can also follow 'Sirius College Career Development' on Facebook.

Performing Arts with Ms Anna!

Dear parents and friends,

It is with pleasure and enthusiasm we inform you that our school is producing our inaugural musical production, Annie Jr. The tremendous production process is currently underway; however, we would like to create a Performing Arts Parents and Friends Committee to further assist us in the development.

We need your help! The Committee will meet regularly over the period of 2 terms to discuss timelines, roles and responsibilities. Parents in the committee will be asked to donate their time and efforts by making and creating costumes, props and sets, for example:

Sew aprons for orphans
Make a wooden desk for Mr. Warbucks
Sew Annie’s iconic red dress
Source props
Assist with performance hair and make up
Assist Food Technology students with ushering and catering on the opening night

The musical is set to run over 3 days, which will include 3 night performances, as well as a matinee. We appreciate any efforts, and understand the large undertaking. Annie Jr. is a wonderful opportunity for the students to perform a professional production in front of their friends and family, while learning important life skills and tools in the process. Having their parents involved in the progression is even more special.

If you are interested in supporting the performing arts department, we would appreciate your input and contributions! Please contact Mrs. Anna Gallo at your earliest convenience at [email protected].

We sincerely thank you for your efforts.

Kindest regards,

Mrs. Anna Gallo & Ms. Maddy Currie
